Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (10-3)

The Seahawks saw their five-game winning streak snapped in Week 14, as they lost to the Los Angeles Rams on the road, 28-12. If anything, the loss barely hurt the Seahawks’ chances to earn a ticket to the playoffs. Russell Wilson had a rare letdown performance in that game. The Seahawks quarterback went just 22 for 36 for 245 passing yards and zero touchdowns. He was also intercepted once. Wilson was not protected well in the pocket, as he was sacked five times for a loss of 43 yards, and that’s something the Seahawks will have to work on heading into a meeting with the Panthers, who are among the league’s best in throttling quarterbacks. Meanwhile, running back Chris Carson may have a bigger workload going forward after backup running back Rashaad Penny was diagnosed with an ACL injury and is now done for the rest of the season. With that development, CJ Prosise will handle the main backup duties behind Carson, who should have fun against the Panthers’ defense that is allowing the fourth-most rushing yards per game in the league.

The Seahawks are 7-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Carolina Panthers (5-8)

The Panthers continue their freefall. In their most recent outing, the Panthers suffered a 40-20 road loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. The Panthers are a team that just couldn’t wait for this season to end to focus on fixing the numerous issues on the team. Quarterback Kyle Allen did not help to improve his job security by throwing two interceptions and just a touchdown on 28-of-41 completions in the loss to the Falcons. The offensive line seemed to be mentally absent, as Allen was sacked five times for a loss of 48 yards. The Panthers may want to scale back the workload of do-it-all running back Christian McCaffrey who led the team in rushing and receiving yards against the Falcons with 53 and 82 yards, respectively. Wide receiver DJ Moore, meanwhile, is having a strong finish to the season. He has 497 receiving yards and three touchdowns over the Panthers’ last five games.

The Panthers, who are second in the league with 47.0 sacks, are 2-2 ATS in their last four home games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Seahawks win, 26-14.
