Betting on the Oakland Raiders (6-8)

It was an ugly scene in the Raiders’ last game in Oakland in Week 14. They lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 20-16, got booed and thrown foods at by their own fans as they make their way off the field. Derek Carr knew that such treatment was coming following the uninspired performance by the Raiders’ offense. He completed just 22 of 36 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown. He was also sacked four times for a loss of 31 yards. Oakland can’t have the offense to stall, which happened on numerous occasions against the Jaguars. It’s important for the Raiders’ offensive line to be tighter in securing Carr in the pocket, which the unit has done admirably well, for the most part, this season. In fact, the Raiders have allowed the fourth-fewest sacks in the NFL. The Raiders’ defense was key to their win over the Chargers in Week 10 at home, 26-24, as they got a total of three turnovers (three interceptions) off Philip Rivers, while also taking him down five times.

The under is 3-0 in the Raiders’ last three road games.

Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (5-9)

A week after scoring over 40 points in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chargers seemed to have failed to pay the electricity bills of their offense in a 39-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at home last Sunday. Rivers was a walking turnover-machine in that game, as he threw three picks, got sacked three times, and fumbled away the ball once. All of the Chargers turnovers were off their veteran quarterback, who will need to have a short memory and move on from that utterly bad performance. Wide receiver Mike Williams, meanwhile, is having a strong windup to the regular season, though. He has 382 receiving yards and two touchdowns over the last five Chargers games. He had 71 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions in the meeting with the Vikings. In his current form, it won’t be much of a surprise to see him go off against the Raiders’ pass defense that is just 27th in the NFL with 263.8 passing yards allowed per game.

The Chargers are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games against Oakland.

Writer’s Prediction

The Raiders win, 24-22.
