Major League Baseball is in a somewhat different position that the NBA and NHL when it comes to playing through the coronavirus hype. It’s true that spring training has been suspended and at press the official season start date has been moved two weeks from the intended date of March 26. But when it comes to the diamond and expansive field, players have very little direct contact with one another aside from getting tagged while running to (or attempting to steal) a base. Perhaps they can manufacture latex mitts to get over than small hurdle? We’re pretty sure disgruntled hitters won’t be rushing the mound any time soon, so the threat of COVID spread is mitigated there as well. What about the stadiums? The league can reduce the number of tickets to ensure two or three seats between attendees, which is something it seems the Miami Marlins did all last season – talk about empty seats!
