This tournament was also known through other names over the years and decades. It had bored the names of Memphis Open Invitational. Danny Thomas Memphis Classic, St. Jude Memphis Classic, Federal Express St. Jude Classic, FedEx St. Jude Classic, Stanford St. Jude Championship, St. Jude Classic presented by FedEx, St. Jude Classic presented by Smith & Nephew, and FedEx St. Jude Classic before getting christened as the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational last year.
