2020 US Open Tennis Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview | Women’s Singles

The 2020 US Open tournament is set to kick off on August 31 in New York, but 2019 women’s singles champion Bianca Andreescu will not be there to try to defend her title. That means there won’t be a repeat champion this year over at the women’s side of the bracket. With that said, let’s take a look at some of the favorites, sleepers, and a long shot to win the 2020 US Open women’s singles.

FAVORITES

Karolína Pliskova (odds)

Pliskova was shocked in the second round of the Western & Southern Open in New York which is serving as the warmup tournament for the 2020 US Open. Pliskova lost to Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets. However, that’s not a reason for people to just ignore Pliskova’s chances of winning the US Open women’s singles. Pliskova hasn’t won a Grand Slam title, but at the US Open, she’s reached the quarterfinals three times since 2016. In 2016, she came close to winning it all in New York, as she lost to Angelique Kerber in the finals.

Serena Williams (odds)

Don’t tell Williams that a thinner field than normal at the US Open means that there’s less prestige in winning it all in New York. Williams said in a recent interview that the competition is still tough regardless of the quality of the players left. But it sure would help her aspirations of adding to her current count of 23 Grand Slam titles. Williams has won the US Open six times and has been runner-up in each of her last two trips to the tournament (2018, 2019).

SLEEPERS

Johanna Konta (odds)

Konta is still in search of her first singles title since winning two in 2017. There’s a chance she could end that drought with a win at the ongoing Western & Southern Open in New York. After getting eliminated in the first rounds of the US Open in 2017 and 2018, Konta made quite a run in 2019, when she went all the way into the quarterfinals.

Coco Gauff (odds)

At 16 years old, the future is brighter than the sun for Gauff despite her loss in the first round of the Western & Southern Open against Maria Sakkari. Gauff has been a decent performer in the three Grand Slam appearances she’s had, so far in her blossoming career. Last year, she reached the Round of 16 at Wimbledon then appeared in the Round of 32 at the US Open. Earlier this year, Gauff made it all the way to the Round of 16 at the Australian Open.

LONG SHOT

Jennifer Brady (odds)

Brady has already won a title this year, as she was the last one standing at The Top Seed Open (hard court) in Lexington earlier this month. However, she was unable to carry that momentum into the Western & Southern Open, where she lost to Jessica Pegula in two sets in the first round.
