Week 8’s game between the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs appear to be a massive mismatch in favor of the reigning Super Bowl champions whichever angle you look at it from, but we’ve seen crazy things happen before in the NFL, so who knows, the Jets might shock the world here. At the very least you’ll want to consider betting against the large double-digit spread which favors the Chiefs by 19-points (opened at 20-points). Check out our preview of this game below.

For some reason, Adam Gase remains as the head coach of the Jets. Whatever potion Gase has slipped into the drink of the Jets’ front office executives, he can’t expect its effect to last long, especially if his team gets burned beyond recognition in this game. It’s hard to make a case why the Jets will win this game, but historically, at least they are not too shabby against the spread when they’ve been underdogs by at least 15 points. In fact, the Jets are 4-3 against the spread in those types of games, dating back to 2002. Last year, they covered as 21-point underdogs during a 30-14 road loss to the New England Patriots. In their most recent game, the Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills at home, 18-10, wherein they had a four-point lead at the half. Sam Darnold passed for 120 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions on 12-of-23 completions.
The Jets, who are scoring just 12.1 points per game, have seen the total go under in three of their last four contests on the road.
Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (-19)
Regular Season Record: 6-1
The upcoming meeting with the Jets is something that has long been circled on the calendar by running back Le’Veon Bell, who recently signed with the Chiefs after securing his release from the dumpster on fire that is the Jets. However, the Chiefs don’t really need Bell to take care of business this coming Sunday, as Clyde Edwards-Helaire is more than enough of a backfield weapon to toy smash New York’s run defense that’s allowing 125.6 rushing yards per game. But with Bell and his burning desire to take revenge on Gase, the Chiefs can expect the running back to create plays even on limited touches. In the Chiefs’ 43-16 road win over the Denver Broncos last Sunday, Bell rushed for 39 yards on just six carries. Patrick Mahomes did not look so good under center in that game, as he went 15 of 23 for 200 yards and a touchdown, but he can rebound with an explosive performance against the awful Jets.
The Chiefs are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 38-17.
