Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (odds)

Record: 10-3 Overall / 3-2 Conference

The Red Raiders are coming off a 91-64 win in Ames against the Iowa State Cyclones last Saturday. Prior to that, Texas Tech scored an 82-71 home win over the Kansas State Wildcats. Now comes the hard part for the Red Raiders, as they will be facing off with Top 25 teams in their next two teams, beginning with their date this coming Wednesday against the Longhorns. The Red Raiders have yet to beat a ranked team this season, so this presents a great opportunity for them to strengthen their March Madness resume. The Red Raiders nearly upset the Kansas Jayhawks back in December, when they lost, 58-57, in Lubbock. But it showed how great the Red Raiders’ defense can be. The Red Raiders held Kansas to only 40.4 percent shooting from the field. On the season, the Red Raiders are fifth in the nation with just 58.0 points allowed per game and 22nd with a 39.0 opponents’ shooting percentage.

Texas Tech is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 road games.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns (odds)

Record: 10-1 Overall / 4-0 Conference

It’s been over a month since the Longhorns last tasted defeat. After losing to the Villanova Wildcats, 68-66, at home on Dec. 6, Texas has gone on to win all its next five games. In their most recent outing, the Longhorns defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown last Saturday, 72-70. It was a mild upset for the Longhorns, who entered that game as 1.5-point underdogs. Andrew Jones hit the game-winning 3-pointer for the Longhorns with just 1.8 seconds left and finished the game with 16 points. The Longhorns will look to control the pace against Texas Tech with their rebounding. Currently, the Longhorns are averaging 40.7 rebounds per game — 22nd-best in the nation — while the Red Raiders are only 137th overall with 36.1 boards per game. Texas’ defense is arguably better than Texas Tech’s as well, especially since it’s been tested against tougher opponents. Texas is fourth in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency with opponents scoring only 87.4 points per 100 possessions.

The over is 2-0 in Texas’ last two games at home.

Writer’s Prediction

Texas wins, 69-66.
