Betting on the Texas Longhorns (-4.0)
Record: 20-5 Overall/9-3 Conference
The Longhorns are the top team now in the Big 12 conference after notching their ninth win in league play via a 94-60 roasting of the West Virginia Mountaineers at home on Saturday. That was a nice recovery of a win for Texas, which previously lost to the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, 88-80. Sir’Jabari Rice came off the bench and fired 20 points for the Longhorns versus West Virginia, while Marcus Carr dropped 16 on 7/11 shooting. Those two combined for 38 points in Texas’ 72-70 win in Austin over the Red Raiders back in mid-January.
Texas is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games.
Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (+4.0)
Record: 13-12 Overall/2-10 Conference
Texas Tech is arguably the worst team in the Big 12 so far this season, but the Red Raiders are coming off a huge victory. The Red Raiders defeated the Kansas State Wildcats at home on Saturday, 71-63. They have snapped a two-game winless streak and have now won three of their last five games. And two of those wins during that five-game stretch were against top 25 programs. The Red Raiders got 20 points from senior De’Vion Harmon in the Kansas State game while also forcing 23 Wildcats turnovers. That kind of tenacious defense plus their rebounding will be crucial for Texas Tech versus the Longhorns, whom the Red Raiders outrebounded in January, 40-32.
Texas Tech is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 meetings with the Longhorns, dating back to 2019.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas wins, 75-70.
