Regular Season Record: 30-36
After splitting their back-to-back set at home against the Golden State Warriors, the Pelicans will hit the road for their next five games, beginning with the date with the Sixers this coming Friday. The Pelicans lost on Monday to the Warriors, 123-108, but got back at Stephen Curry and company the following day in a 108-103 win. Lonzo Ball came up big in that win, scoring 33 points to go with 6 rebounds and 4 assists while hitting 7 3-pointers. Ball has stepped it up this season in which he’s averaging 14.6 points while shooting 37.8 percent from behind the arc. Zion Williamson will hunt mismatches against the Sixers, as he looks to continue his fantastic season. He had 37 points on 15-of-28 shooting in the Pelicans’ 101-94 home win over Philly last April. New Orleans also outrebounded the Sixers in that game, 56-47. As a team, the Pelicans are sixth in the NBA with 115.2 points per game and second with 55.6 rebounds per contest.
The Pelicans are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games.
Betting on the Philadelphia 76ers (-8.5)
Regular Season Record: 44-21
Assuming the Sixers take care of business and beat the lowly Houston Rockets this Wednesday, they will come into the match against the Pelicans on Friday on a six-game win streak. In their last game, as of this writing, the Sixers defeated the Chicago Bears on the road last Monday, 106-94. Seth Curry and Tobias Harris teamed up in that win for a combined total of 41 points, while Embiid scored 13 points with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. As the best player on the team, and arguably in the NBA, a lot is expected of Embiid every game. He didn’t have a great performance in the first meeting with New Orleans, as he scored just 14 points with 9 rebounds while shooting just 5 of 16 from the field, but it’s just not easy to take him out of the equation. On the season, Embiid is averaging 29.0 points per game on 50.9 percent shooting from the field. He can have his way against the Pelicans’ defense that’s allowing 115.0 points per game.
The Sixers are 3-0 against the spread in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Sixers win, 115-110.
