When: Saturday, July 24, 2021
Odds: Maycee Barber (+105) vs Miranda Maverick (-135)
TV Broadcast: ESPN
Betting on Maycee Barber (+105)
MMA Record: 8-2-0
Barber will look to cut her losing streak when he takes on Maverick this Saturday. “The Future,” Barber has lost both of her last two fights in the same manner (unanimous decisions). The last time she stepped inside the Octagon, she lost to Alexa Grasso in February 2021. Prior to that, she got handed a defeat by Roxanne Modafferi back in January 2019. She’s clearly lost all the momentum she built from a scorching 8-0 start to her pro MMA career. She made her UFC debut in November 2018 and scored a knockout win over Hannah Cifers before winning her next two fights also via knockouts. Barber could be a bit confusing to her opponents because she could easily switch stances. She has five KO wins and two via submissions. She’s never been knocked out or submitted so far in her MMA career.
Betting on Miranda Maverick (-135)
MMA Record: 11-2-0
Maverick is a fighter that’s rapidly becoming a must-watch fighter. She’s got only two fights in the UFC thus far, but if she could win this one against Barber, she will surely turn plenty more heads. She has won all her past seven fights, dating back to her days with Shogun Fights. A submission specialist, Maverick projects to be a huge threat on the mat for Barber, though according to her small sample size date in the UFC, she can also bang standing up. Maverick has an average of 6.0 significant strikes landed per minute. In her last fight, she swarmed Gillian Roberston with 71 significant strikes to just 27 by her opponent on her way to scoring a unanimous decision win back in March 2021. Maverick has a total of six submission wins, three of which coming by way of rear-naked chokes.
Writer’s Prediction
Maverick wins via submission.
