Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (-1.0)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Jaguars will look to have a strong preseason start following a season where they finished with just three wins against 14 losses. If anything, at least Jacksonville won its last game of the 2021 NFL season, defeating the Indianapolis Colts at home in Week 18, 26-11. Jacksonville will be very much interested in checking out the progress quarterback Trevor Lawrence has made, heading into his second year in the NFL. But for this game, we might see a bit more of quarterbacks CJ Beathard, Jake Luton, and Kyle Sloter, who are jockeying for the main backup role. And then there’s Travon Walker, the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. His presence on defense should be felt by the Jags, who were just 28th in 2021 with 26.9 points allowed per game.
Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (+1.0)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Raiders made the NFL playoffs last season but got knocked out right away by the Cincinnati Bengals in the wild-card round, so there are some bad tastes left in the mouth of Derek Carr and company. In any case, Las Vegas is full of hope that the upcoming season will be better, especially with all the moves they made over the offseason. For one, the Raiders got a new elite weapon in the form of wide receiver Davante Adams. They also bolstered their defense with the addition of Chandler Jones. However, it’s unlikely we will get to see any of those players play for a heavy number of snaps against the Jags. Instead, for this preseason game, the group to watch out for over at the side of Las Vegas is the running back, with guys like Kenyan Drake, Zamir White, and Brandon Bolden each capable of making a strong case to be the main backup for Josh Jacobs. The Jaguars allowed 125.1 rushing yards per game in 2021, so that’s a good sign for Las Vegas’ ground attack.
Writer’s Prediction
The Raiders win, 17-13.
