Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 6-8
The Raiders pulled off one of the most spectacular wins in the history of the NFL in Week 15, as they came away with a 30-24 victory over the New England Patriots after defensive end Chandler Jones intercepted a lateral Pats pass and took it home for a walk-off Raiders triumph. The Raiders are now 4-1 in their last five games. They are playing much better football of late than they did earlier in the season. The Raiders’ defense, in particular, has stepped up. They are allowing 24.1 points per game this season but have given up just 20.3 points in the last three outings. Offensively, Las Vegas is putting up 24.1 points and generating 358.2 total yards per game, 10th and 11th in the NFL, respectively.
The Raiders are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games overall.
Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 11-3
The Steelers still have a shot at making the playoffs, but in any case, they would give everything to win in Week 16 against the Raiders as a tribute to fallen Pittsburgh legend Franco Harris, who died Wednesday. Pittsburgh will start Kenny Pickett in Week 16 after he missed Week 15’s 24-16 road win over the Carolina Panthers. Pickett is the better QB option for the Steelers than Mitchell Trubisky, so this is a plus for Pittsburgh, which has won three of its last four games. Pickett can potentially have a huge performance in his return against the Raiders, who don’t pressure a lot on defense, as evidenced by Las Vegas’ 0.8 takeaways average per game.
The Steelers are 4-0 against the spread versus a team with a losing record.
Writer’s Prediction
The Steelers win, 27-20.
