Betting on the New York Jets (odds)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
There was nothing spectacular in what rookie quarterback Zach Wilson did on the field during the Jets’ 12-7 road win over the New York Giants over the weekend, but he was steady nonetheless. That’s good enough for the Jets. Wilson went 6 of 9 for 63 yards and with an NFL official start in a competitive setting under his belt, it might get better for him when they face off with the Packers this coming Saturday. Green Bay offers a good chance for Wilson and fellow quarterback Mike White to shine even further, with the Packers’ defense getting ran over by the Houston Texans last Saturday, especially on the ground. That sounds like good news for the Jets’ ground game that managed just 2.1 yards per carry against the Giants.
The Jets are 3-1 against the spread in their last four preseason games. The under is 9-1 in the Jets’ last 10 games in the preseason.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Just like Wilson, Jordan Love’s first start in his NF was decent, at the very least. Love completed 12 of 17 passes for 122 passing yards and a touchdown. He provided the best highlight of the game of the Packers by connecting on a 22-yard pass to running back Kylin Hill, who took the ball to the house. However, Green Bay was just 3 of 11 on third downs and did not even have a single attempt inside the 20-yard line. Things could definitely look more positive for the Packers if Aaron Rodgers would see action in Week 2, though even if he does, it’s likely going to be just for a minimal number of snaps. Green Bay’s backfield came up with just 49 rushing yards on 21 carries, but they can expect to see more gaps to burst through in the Jets’ run defense that allowed the Giants to rush for 6.6 yards per carry.
The Packers are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 home games in the preseason. The total has been an even 5-5 over/under in those games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Packers win, 23-20.
