Betting on the New Orleans Saints (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
The Saints stumbled right out of the gate of the 2022 NFL preseason as they lost to the Houston Texans on the road last Saturday, 17-13. Ian Book, coming off a poor rookie season, struggled anew against the Texans, as he went 15/22 for 121 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and an interception. He also got sacked five times for a loss of 32 yards Andy Dalton, meanwhile, went 5/5 for 51 passing yards and a touchdown with no interceptions thrown. The Saints’ chances of beating the Packers likely hinges mostly on how heavy New Orleans plays Book, who still seems he doesn’t belong on an NFL roster. Nevertheless, Book can still recover against the Packers’ defense that just gave up nearly 30 points against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Under is 4-0 in the Saints’ last four preseason games on the road.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Like the Saints, Green Bay also suffered a loss in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL preseason, as the Packers absorbed a 28-21 road loss to San Francisco. But returning to play at Lambeau Field this coming Friday could be all the team needs to get its act together. Jordan Love was shaky under center against the Niners, going 13/24 for 176 passing yards and two touchdowns against three interceptions. He was also able to pick up 24 rushing yards on just four carries. On paper, those picks did not look good at all for Love, but those weren’t entirely his fault, Look for the Packers’ offense to get going again in Week 2, with Love taking most of the snaps at quarterback and rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs being a problem for the opposing defense again. Doubs exploded in Week 1 against the 49ers’ defense with 45 receiving yards and a touchdown on just three catches.
The Packers are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 home games in the preseason.
Writer’s Prediction
The Packers win, 20-17.
