Baker Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams are unlikely to make the playoffs, but there’s still a chance, and that’s all that matters for the team as they head to Lambeau Field for a date with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Like the Rams, the Packers are long shots to make the playoffs, but under no circumstance would the Packers not want to win in front of their home fans. Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (+7.0)
Regular Season Record: 4-9
Baker Mayfield was pure magic for the Rams in his first appearance with the team, leading Los Angeles to a come-from-behind 17-16 win over the Las Vegas Raiders at home in Week 14. Mayfield passed for 230 passing yards and a touchdown on 22/35 completions versus the Raiders. Remember he did all that without having quality practice at the time with the Rams. With more time to acclimate with the Rams, Mayfield can be expected to put up an even more efficient performance at Lambeau Field. But also watch out for the Rams running backs, as Green Bay has one of the worst run defenses in the NFL this season.
The Rams are 13-3-1 against the spread in their last 17 December games.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (-7.0)
Regular Season Record: 5-8
Aaron Rodgers will continue to start for the Packers, including in Week 15’s meeting with the Packers. Mayfield may have momentum, but Rodgers is still clearly the better quarterback between the two – by a mile. Rodgers passed for 182 yards and a touchdown without an interception on 18/31 completions in Week 14’s 28-19 road win over the Chicago Bears. AJ Dillon rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in that game. Green Bay’s defense hasn’t been spectacular, but at least it won’t have to deal with Cooper Kupp (injured). On the other side of the ball, Rodgers won’t be seeing Aaron Donald, who’s dealing with an ankle problem.
The Over is 4-0 in their last four games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Packers win, 26-21.
