Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (odds)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
Nathan Peterman looked solid last week in the Raiders’ 20-7 win at home over the Seattle Seahawks. Although he dished out an interception, he was otherwise efficient in driving the offense downfield. He had 246 passing yards on 29-of-39 completions and also rushed six times for 32 yards. His protection unit has to get better, however, after getting sacked four times for a loss of 19 yards. There’s also a chance that Derek Carr will appear in a few snaps at least in Week 2. That could result in an even better offense for the Raiders, who averaged 27.1 points per game last season. Las Vegas must gave also liked the performances of running back Trey Raggs and wide receiver Zay Jones. Raggs had 62 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries against Seattle, while Jones caught all three targets for 57 receiving yards.
The Raiders are 7-0 against the spread in their last seven preseason games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Operating without mostly their starters, the Rams took a 13-6 home loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 of the NFL preseason. Instead of Matthew Stafford under center, the Rams rolled with Devlin Hodges and Bryce Perkins handling the quarterbacking duties. Perkins played better between the two as he went 7 of 10 for 42 passing yards and a touchdown while also leading the team with 23 rushing yards on four carries. Don’t expect to see Stafford for the Rams until the regular season, so Hodges and Perkins can continue their quarterback battle for the backup role in these preseason games. Despite the dearth of offense in Week 1, the Rams showed that they could rely on their defense that held the Chargers to only 1 of 3 in the red zone.
The Rams are 4-3-1 against the spread in their last seven preseason games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Raiders win, 20-16.
