Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (-26.5)

Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Spencer Rattler is all the talk in Norman, which makes a lot of sense for obvious reasons. The sophomore quarterback’s presence alone is enough to make Oklahoma’s offense a huge threat to any team. In his first season in college, Rattler posted 3,031 passing yards and 28 touchdowns with seven interceptions. That same season, the Sooners averaged 42.5 points per game, sixth overall in the nation. Marvin Mims and Jadon Haselwood should both be busy pulling down passes from Rattler against Tulane’s secondary. Speaking of defense, it’s actually Oklahoma’s stop unit that poses a bigger threat to the Green Wave. A bunch of starters have returned, so don’t be surprised if Tulane fail to get into rhythm in this game. The Sooners were eighth nationally in 2020 with only 30.07 percent of opponents’ third-down attempts going through.

Oklahoma is 7-1 against the spread in its last eight games overall.

Betting on the Tulane Green Wave (+26.5)

Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Tulane rushed a lot in 2020. In fact, the Green Wave were 20th in the nation that season with a 59.58 rush play percentage and 16th with 217.6 rushing yards per game. However, they will have to do more than just carry the ball against an expected stout defense by the Sooners, especially against the run. Fortunately for Tulane, the passing attack seems it’s ready to take the next step and become more involved, with Michael Pratt back under center. Pratt passed for 1,806 yards and 20 touchdowns with eight intercpetions last season, which are numbers that are nothing to write home about. But a receiving corps with more experienced will be there to help greatly in providing stability for the team’s passing attack. The defense will have to work extra against Oklahoma, and Tulane will rely on its pass rush to pressure Rattler. Remember that Tulan was tops in the AAC last season with 37.0 sacks.

Tulane is 9-1 against the spread in its last 10 games as the home team.

Writer’s Prediction

Oklahoma wins, 43-17.
