Betting on the Western Carolina Catamounts (odds)

Record: 0-1 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Although the Catamounts lost in their first game of the season, taking a 31-28 defeat at the hands of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels last week, they still have reason to feel good about that game. For one, they came one missed goal away from forcing overtime against Eastern Kentucky, months after they lost to the same team via a lopsided score of 49-17. Kerwin Bell, the new head coach of the Catamounts, showed, thought that game, that he’s doing something right for the Catamounts. Against Eastern Kentucky, Western Carolina was led by transfer quarterback Rogan Wells, who had 275 passing yards and a touchdown on 24-of-44 completions. You would not find many people saying that Western Carolina will upset Oklahoma, but based on the Catamounts performance and marked improvement, they should be a threat to cover the spread in Norman.

Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (odds)

Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

You can say that the Sooners got…rattled. In their first game of the Season, Oklahoma nearly got upset by the Tulane Green Wave in a 40-25 win in Week 1 of the 2021 NCAA football season. The Sooners were favored by 31.0 points in that game, but they seemed to be a bit rusty coming out of the game. The good news is that could be a wake-up call the team needs. Spencer Rattler went 30 of 39 for 304 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice. Considering the quality of their upcoming opponent, Rattler and the Sooners should have fewer issues moving the chains against an FCS team like Western Carolina. Expect them to score in bunches just like they did in the second quarter of the Tulan Game where Oklahoma scored 23 unanswered points. It’s Oklahoma’s defense that really needs to show up and be merciless against Western Carolina to get back its mojo. But despite giving up 35 points to Tulane, the Sooners did manage to force three turnovers and limit the Green Wave to only 3.1 yards per carry.

Writer’s Prediction

Oklahoma wins, 47-14.
