Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-14)
Record: 2-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Alabama is on a destroy mode. After decimating the Miami Hurricanes in Week 1, 44-13, the Crimson Tide demolished the Mercer Bears, 48-14. The Crimson Tide failed to cover the spread, as 54-point favorites, but the message they sent was clear: Alabama remains as dangerous as advertised. Bryce Young passed for 227 passing yards and three touchdowns on 19/27 completions, while Alabama’s defense allowed Mercer to convert just three of 12 third downs and come up with only 216 total yards. As usual, Alabama can either win via air or on the ground. There are elite talents in the passing and rushing attacks for the Crimson Tide, and those will keep Florida’s defense on its toes from beginning to end. Among those crucial pieces for the Crimson Tide are running back Brian Robinson Jr. and wide receiver John Metchie III, each capable of stretching the field for their teammates. Then there’s Alabama’s defense, which is an entirely different world of headache for opponents.
Alabama is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Florida Gators (+14)
Record: 2-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Like Alabama, the Gators are off to a 2-0 start to the season. However, Florida has yet to win against the spread. Nevertheless, the team will take all the momentum it can heading into a big matchup against the best squad in the nation. Up to this point, Florida has yet to name a true No. 1 quarterback, with both Anthony Richardson and Emory Jones sharing snaps. In last week’s 42-20 road win over the South Florida Bulls, Jones went 14/22 for 151 passing yards and a touchdown, though he had two interceptions. Meanwhile, Richardson went just 3/3 but picked up 152 passing yards and two touchdowns. Both QBs likely would be on the field again this coming Saturday, and if anything, that could affect how Alabama prepares for this upcoming game. The two quarterbacks are also capable of using their legs to gain big yards. Richardson had 115 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries against the Bulls, while Jones had 81 rushing yards and a TD on 13 rushing attempts.
The over is 4-1 in Florida’s last five games.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 40-17.
