Betting on the New York Jets (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-8
Starting Joe Flacco in Week 11 at home against the Dolphins was a sound decision by Jets head coach Robert Saleh, but he can’t make that call again because the veteran has just been placed on the COVID-19 list together with Mike White. That leaves Zach Wilson as the starter for Week 12 against Houston. This will be Wilson’s first start in weeks after spending time on the sidelines with a PCL injury. In his return, Wilson will look to work on the Jets’ passing attack that has gotten a boost from wide receiver Elijah Moore. The rookie has been playing well this season, and in the 24-17 loss last Sunday to Miami, Moore went off for 141 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. He can go off again against Houston’s weak overall defense that is giving up 27.1 points per game.
The over is 6-1 in the Jets’ last seven games overall.
Betting on the Houston Texans (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-8
At last, the Texans snapped their eight-game losing skid by taking down the Tennessee Titans on the road in Week 11, 22-13. That was a shocking win for Houston, but it also showed that Tyrod Taylor can make this Texans unit look competitive, at least. Taylor threw for only 107 yards with zero touchdowns and without an interception on 14/25 completions but scored two rushing touchdowns. His mobility adds so much value to Houston’s offense. The Jets’ doesn’t seem to have a sturdy run defense to protect themselves from getting gashed by Taylor and company on the ground. New York is only 27th in the league in rushing yards allowed per carry, 28th in rushing yards allowed, and 32nd in rushing touchdowns given up per game.
The Texans are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Texans win, 24-20.
