Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs are something else. Georgia is being carried by a historically great defense that has not allowed more than 17 points at any game, so far this season. This team is going to finish the season as the No. 1 team in the nation in terms of scoring defense, as it arrives in Saturday’s game against Alabama with an average of just 6.9 points allowed per game. The Bulldogs’ passing and rushing defenses are both top three in the nation, as well. In their final warm-up for the 2021 SEC Championship Game, the Bulldogs obliterated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on the road to the tune of a 45-0 score. As good as Georgia’s stop unit is, the team’s offense is one that can’t also be ignored. The Bulldogs are sixth in the nation with 40.7 points per game. Stetson Bennett isn’t the best quarterback out there, but he gets the job done with his steadiness in the pocket. Against the Yellow Jackets, he threw for 255 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero picks on 14/20 completions. James Cook and Zamir White also provide lots of support on the ground, having combined for nearly 1,300 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns on the season.
Georgia is 10-3 against the spread in its last 13 neutral location games as a favorite.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (+6.5)
Record: 11-1 Overall / 7-1 Conference
Alabama survived a loss to the Texas A&M Aggies on the road back in October to make their way to the SEC Championship Game — again. The Crimson Tide are also in position to secure a College Football Playoff spot, which was nearly taken away by the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl last Saturday. Alabama escaped that game with a 24-22 win. Georgia’s defense is definitely a huge threat to ‘Bama, but it also hasn’t quite come across an attack like the Crimson Tide’s offense. Alabama is averaging 42.7 points per game — good for fifth overall in the FBS. Quarterback Bryce Young is making a strong case for the Heisman Trophy, with his exceptional play under center. He is second in the SEC with 325.1 passing yards per game and no. 1 in the conference with 40 touchdown tosses against only four interceptions. It will take Alabama a special quarterback to break Georgia’s defense and fortunately for the Crimson Tide, they have one in Young.
Alabama is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as an underdog.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 27-26.
