Betting on the Army Black Knights (+7.5)
Record: 8-3 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Army us on a roll, just in time for the battle against the Midshipmen. The Black Knights are coming off a 31-16 road win over the Liberty Flames on Nov. 27. After that, they enjoyed a bye week to get fully prepared for the Navy game. Army has won all of its last four games, during which the Black Knights have allowed just 14.3 points per game, while also averaging 42.3 points. Army excels in controlling the game clock and possession battle, thanks to its run-heavy offense. The Black Knights are no. 1 in the nation in rush play percentage (87.5%), second in rushes per game (60.9), and second in rushing yards per game (289.1). They have a high third-down success rate and are the top team in the FBS with a time of possession percentage of 61.7.
Army is 6-1-1 against the spread in its last eight games in neutral locations.
Betting on the Navy Midshipmen (-7.5)
Record: 3-8 Overall / 3-5 Conference
Navy prevented a three-game skid with a 38-14 road win over the Temple Owls on Nov. 27. Prior to that, the Midshipmen lost to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the road (34-6) and to the East Carolina Pirates at home (38-25). Although they have a worse record than Army, the Midshipmen looked competitive in their games against ranked teams outside of that meeting with Notre Dame. They lost to then-no. 24 SMU Mustangs, 31-24, and also to the then-no.2 Cincinnati Bearcats, 27-20, both at home. Like Army, the Midshipmen love to run the ball. Navy is averaging 229.3 rushing yards (fifth) on 58.5 rushing attempts (third) per game. Against the Owls, the Midshipmen racked up 219 rushing yards and went 8/15 on third downs.
Navy is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Army wins, 30-20.
