Betting on the Memphis Tigers (-4.5)
Record: 6-6 Overall / 3-5 Conference
Memphis secured a bowl game ticket with a 6-6 overall record. The Tigers scored their sixth win of the season with a 33-28 home win over the Tulane Green Wave on Nov. 27, which also snapped Memphis’ two-game losing skid. Memphis started the season strong, winning three games in a row, but only went 3-6 the rest of the way. This team has a decent offense that is averaging 30.1 points per game — good for fifth in the AAC. Freshman quarterback Seth Henigan is second in the conference with 302.0 passing yards per game to go with totals of 25 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. One thing about Memphis is that it is a disciplined squad, as reflected by the Tigers’ average of 4.8 penalties per game, which is second-fewest in the AAC.
The under is 5-1 in Memphis’ last six games overall.
Betting on the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors (+4.5)
Record: 6-7 Overall / 3-5 Conference
Challenging Memphis at the Hawaii Bowl are the Rainbow Warriors, who are also on a winning streak, having won both of their last two games. Hawaii beat the Colorado State Rams on Nov. 20 then took down the Wyoming Cowboys on the road on Nov. 27. Quarterback Chevan Cordeiro passed for 323 passing yards and three touchdowns against an interception on 19/31 completions against Wyoming. He also rushed 14 times for 86 yards and a touchdown. Cordeiro’s dual-threat capabilities are going to be a big plus for Hawaii in this upcoming game against Memphis that isn’t exactly good at containing opponents’ rushing attacks. Hawaii has four players with at least 300 rushing yards this season, led by Dae Hunter who has 651 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Dedrick Parson, meanwhile, has 618 rushing yards and eight rushing scores.
Hawaii is 4-1 against the spread in its last five neutral site games as an underdog.
Writer’s Prediction
Memphis wins, 34-29.
