Betting on the Las Vegas Raiders (+9.5)
Regular Season Record: 6-6
Just a week after a booming Thanksgiving Day win over the Dallas Cowboys to end a losing skid, the Raiders are back in the loss column. That’s following their 17-15 home loss to the Washington Football Team in Week 13. Derek Carr passed for 249 yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions on 28/38 completions. With the Raiders, sometimes, you just never know what you are going to get. In other words, they are capable of stunning the Chiefs on the road, and their chances could increase if tight end Darren Waller is able to return to action. Waller, who missed the Washington game with a knee injury, is currently day-to-day. If he can’t go, Hunter Renfrow can continue expecting a heavy load downfield after recording 102 receiving yards on nine catches and 10 targets in Week 13.
The Raiders, who are averaging 22.8 points, are 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (-9.5)
Regular Season Record: 8-4
There seems to be something wrong with the Chiefs’ offense, but they’ll take a win whenever they can. Their 22-9 home win over the Denver Broncos in Week 13 was just the second time in their last five games in which they scored more than 20 points. On the other side of the field, it appears that Kansas City has gotten better. The Chiefs have allowed just nine points in each of their last two games. They even held the Green Bay Packers to only seven points back in Week 9, albeit without Aaron Rodgers on the side of the opponent. Still, a team with Patrick Mahomes under center and guys like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce downfield are always a huge threat to explode offensively, especially against a squad like the Raiders, who’s got a toothless pass rush and low interception rate.
The Chiefs are 21-10-1 against the spread in their last 32 games against AFC West teams.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 28-24.
