It’s not over ‘till it’s over for the Seattle Seahawks, who are still clinging to their hope of making the playoffs as a wild card entry in the NFC. Up next for them is a matchup against the Houston Texans, who are no longer in playoff contention, but would love to harm the Seahawks’ chances. Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (-7.5)
Regular Season Record: 4-8
The Seahawks showed some signs of life by scoring a much-needed 30-23 win last Sunday over the San Francisco 49ers. Seattle was led by Russell Wilson who rosed to the occasion and passed for 231 yards and a couple of touchdowns, albeit with an interception, on 30/27 completions. It could get easier for Wilson and the Seahawks’ offense in Week 14, as they will be up against Houston’s leaky defense that is allowing the third-most points per game this season. Houston also has the worst run defense in the NFL, so Travis Homer, Rashaad Penny, and even Adrian Peterson can continue having success on the ground after Seattle rushed for 146 yards and a couple of touchdowns against the Niners. Seattle’s defense has its shortcomings this season, but the Seahawks might not have to worry about on that end of the field against the listless attack of Houston.
The Seahawks are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 Week 14 games.
Betting on the Houston Texans (+7.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-10
For the second time this season, Houston laid an egg, as the Texans lost in Week 13 to the Indianapolis at home to the tune of an embarrassing 31-0 score. The Texans managed just 141 total yards and were only 3/12 on third downs. While that loss is morally deflating, the Texans can still feel like a rebound is coming up for them. It’s not like Seattle is a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Seattle’s got only two more wins than the Texans. The Seahawks are even unlikely to make the playoffs. Houston’s been one of the worst teams in the league, but the Seahawks have some areas that can be exploited by the Texans, including a weak pass protection that has allowed the third-most sacks in the NFL, thus far.
The Texans are 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games after scoring fewer than 15 points in their previous outing.
Writer’s Prediction
The Seahawks win, 24-13.
