Regular Season Record: 0-0
It’s a new era for the Colts, as they have Matt Ryan as their starting quarterback now. Ryan needs no introduction. He knows how to distribute the ball through the air and he should be an upgrade over Carson Wentz for Indianapolis which was already prolific in scoring in 2021 when the Colts put up 26.5 points per game. And that was mostly because of running back Jonathan Taylor, who is poised for another terrific season. In 2021, Taylor led the NFL with 1,811 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. Indianapolis is also pretty pesky defensively downfield, having finished inside the top five last season in terms of interception rate.
The Colts are 6-1 against the spread in their last 7 road games.
Betting on the Houston Texans (+8)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Texans are not expected to contend for a playoff spot this 2022 NFL season, but they should also be better than last year. Davis Mills enters his second season in the NFL after a mildly surprising solid rookie campaign when he passed for 2,664 yards and 16 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Brandin Cooks is still a solid play for Houston in the passing attack plus the Texans have a stud in the backfield in the form of running back Dameon Pierce. Speaking of studs, the Texans spent their first three picks in the 2022 NFL Draft on defensive pieces, including cornerback Derek Stingley (3rd overall pick). He comes in to help Houston’s defense that was fifth in the NFL in 2021 with a 3.11 percent interception rate.
The Texans are 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 vs. AFC South.
Writer’s Prediction
The Colts win, 24-17.
