Regular Season Record: 2-0
The Chiefs are still the team to beat in the AFC West division. After crushing the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 on the road, Kansas City found a way to repel the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2 for a 27-24 home win. Patrick Mahomes went 24/35 for 235 passing yards (2 touchdowns, 1 INT) while tight end Travis Kelce only had 51 receiving yards on five catches and seven targets. The Chiefs’ offensive line was perhaps Kansas City’s MVP, as it kept the pair of Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack in check. It’s not always the Chiefs play with that much inconsistency, but they should be able to return to their usually elite form when they face Indianapolis, which had a hard time against teams with just Davis Mills and Trevor Lawrence as quarterbacks.
The Chiefs are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-1-1
The Colts’ offense was supposed to be more lethal with Matt Ryan as their new quarterback, but that obviously did not look like it in Week 2 when Indianapolis laid an egg in a 24-0 road loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Granted that the Colts did not have Michael Pittman Jr. in that game because of injury, their attack shouldn’t have been still that anemic against a non-playoff contender. Pittman (quad injury) could be back as soon as Week 3, so that’s at least one source of confidence for the Colts. If he returns in time for the Chiefs game, he is going to stare at Kansas City’s defense that got mossed for 113 receiving yards by Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams in Week 2.
The Under is 8-2 in their last 10 games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 30-24.
