Betting on the Houston Texans (+7.0)
Regular Season Record: 1-6-1
Not a few expected the Texans to lose to Philly, but even those who predicted the Eagles to defeat Houston must have been at least a little surprised at how Davis Mills and company managed to keep in step with the only undefeated team in the league for most of the contest. Mills had 154 passing yards and two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. Rookie running back Dameon Pierce rushed for 139 yards on 27 carries. Pierce is gaining confidence and that can be bad news for the Giants, who are just 25th in the NFL with 137.3 rushing yards allowed per game. Houston is not as bad as its record suggests.
The Texans are 5-2 against the spread versus a team with a winning record.
Betting on the New York Giants (-7.0)
Regular Season Record: 6-2
The Giants are alright even though they just got tripped up by Seattle. New York’s offense is not blowing people’s minds, as it is just averaging 20.4 points per game, but when Saquon Barkley has the ball, things can happen in favor of the Giants. New York is fifth in the NFL with 161.5 rushing yards per game, with Barkley leading the team with 779 rushing yards and five rushing scores. Barkley was grounded by the Seahawks, but that is unlikely to happen against Houston, which is the worst in the league with an average of 180.6 rushing yards surrendered per game.
The Giants are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Giants win, 23-17.
