Tennessee did what it was supposed to do and was expected by many to pull off in Week 14, which was to defeat the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars at home, 20-0. The Titans were coming off a two-game losing skid going into that game, and they made sure that they wouldn’t lose to the Houston Texans and the Jaguars – two of the worst teams in the NFL – over a three-game span. Now that they have returned in the win column, the Titans will next tackle on another struggling team. The Steelers are not in a good form and could be exposed once again, this time by the Titans, who have just gotten back wide receiver Julio Jones from injury. Jones returned from a stint on the injured reserve and caught four passes on six targets for 33 yards against the Jags. He could see more targets coming his way on Sunday against the Steelers, whose defense has been a letdown this season.
The Titans are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games after covering the spread in the previous contest – which they did in the win over the Jags.
Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 6-6
The Steelers are close to desperation mode, as they continue to fall behind in the playoff race in the AFC. They have won just one game in their last four outings, which also includes their tie with the Detroit Lions in Week 10 at home and their 36-28 road loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14. One thing to closely monitor on the Steelers is the status of star linebacker TJ Watt, who injured his groin against Minnesota. The Steelers are fortunate that the injury turned out to be not serious, but his status for Week 15 remains up in the air, as of this writing. With or without Watt, the Steelers should be able to have at least some success in getting to the Titans’ backfield. The Titans have one of the worst pass protection in the NFL, one that ranks 28th in quarterback sack rate (8.04%) and tied for fifth with the Texans in terms of most sacks allowed (37).
The Steelers are 18-6-2 against the spread in their last 26 games as a home underdog.
Writer’s Prediction
The Steelers win, 26-23.
