Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 7-8
Minnesota went under .500 again after losing to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16 at home, 30-23. The Vikings’ defense forced multiple turnovers, but Kirk Cousins and company just couldn’t capitalize on those Rams errors. Nevertheless, coming away with three interceptions off Matthew Stafford was a good display for Minnesota, which is going to need the same energy from its stop unit in the upcoming rematch against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. As for Cousins, he threw for just one touchdown against an interception despite going 27/38 for 315 passing yards. But if the good side of Cousins shows up on Sunday, then it would be an exciting outing for the Vikings. Cousins had 341 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 24/35 completions in their 34-31 home win over the Packers back in Week 11. Running back Dalvin Cook, who missed the Rams game due to health and safety protocols, is questionable for Week 17 as of this writing.
The Vikings are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 road games versus a team with a winning home record.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 12-3
Having Rodgers is already enough to make Green Bay run like a true Super Bowl contender. Rodgers was once again majestic under center for the Packers in their 24-22 home win over the Cleveland Browns. The future Hall of Famer quarterback tossed three touchdowns and zero interceptions on 24/34 completions. Wide receiver Davante Adams went off for 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 10 receptions. Sure, the Vikings picked Stafford thrice last Sunday, but here’s the thing: Stafford and Rodgers are two completely different quarterbacks. Although the Packers lost the first time out to the Vikings this season, Rodgers skewered Minnesota’s defense in that game, passing for 385 yards and four touchdowns against zero picks on 23/33 completions. Or the Packers can just attack Minnesota on the ground, as the Vikings are only 28th in the league with 130.5 rushing yards allowed per game. Running back Aaron Jones was not around in Week 11’s loss to the Vikings due to MCL injury but is now healthy.
The Packers are 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games as a home favorite.
Writer’s Prediction
The Packers win, 28-22.
