Regular Season Record: 9-8
Despite a 2-5 start to the season, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are headed to the playoffs, thanks to a strong finish that saw them win six of their final eight assignments. They will be facing a familiar foe in the form of Tampa Bay in the Wild Card round. The Eagles lost to the reigning Super Bowl champions at home back in Week 4, 28-22. In that game, Hurts went just 12/26 for 115 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception and also rushed 10 times for 44 yards and a couple of touchdowns. The Eagles appear to have gotten better as a team since. And this time, their defense will not have to deal with Antonio Brown, who torched Philly in the first meeting for over 90 receiving yards and a touchdown. The Eagles also need to have a better pass rush this time. They failed to record a sack in Week 4 and allowed nearly 300 passing yards to Tom Brady.
The Eagles are 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 playoff games as an underdog
Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-8)
Regular Season Record: 13-4
Tom Brady is no stranger to the playoffs, and his postseason experience alone is already a huge advantage in favor of the Buccaneers. Brady, a strong contender for league MVP honors, finished the regular season as the NFL leader in passing yards with 5,316 and in touchdowns as well with 43 passing scores against just 12 interceptions. He passed for 297 yards and two touchdowns with an interception on 34/42 completions in the first meeting with the eagles, and even though Brown is no longer with the team, Tampa Bay still has the likes of Rob Gronkowski and Mike Evans downfield. Running back Leonard Fournette is also expected to return after missing games. He had 81 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries versus the Eagles in Week 4.
The Buccaneers are 6-1 against the spread in their last 7 games as a home favorite.
Writer’s Prediction
The Buccaneers win, 28-20.
