The Jets did not have the type of return of investment they expected last season for drafting quarterback Zach Wilson high, so don’t rule out the possibility of the team giving him a significant amount of time playing in preseason games this year. In his first year in the NFL, Wilson completed just 55.6 percent of his passes and had nine touchdowns against 11 touchdowns with just 2,334 passing yards. And this year, the Jets made sure to surround him with better talents in the offensive skill positions, with the team drafting wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall. Wilson was a stud at Ohio State. Hall was a stud at Iowa State. Both guys went in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft and must be itching to showcase in the preseason a glimpse of the big impact they will be having on the field for the Jets.
The Jets are 3-1 against the spread in their last four games in the preseason.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (+3)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Eagles have lesser questions than New York under center. The clear QB1 on Philly’s roster is Jalen Hurts, who can be expected to see zero snaps in this preseason game against New York. Even if he does, it’s likely the likes of Gardner Minshew, Reid Sinnett, and rookie Carson Strong will take on most of the quarterbacking duties on Friday. Last season, the Eagles were 12th in the NFL with 25.5 points per game on the backs of a strong ground attack that topped the league with 156.1 rushing yards per contest. But the Eagles want to see their air attack play a bigger role on offense which is why they brought in wide receiver AJ Brown and also added another vet wideout in Zach Pascal. There’s also work to be done on defense for Philly after allowing 23.1 points per game in 2021, and part of the improvement for them is rookie defensive tackle Jordan Davis, this year’s 13th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Davis is getting rave reviews in the training camp and could potentially wreak havoc against second and third-stringers in the trenches in the preseason.
Writer’s Prediction
The Eagles win, 20-17.
