Betting on the Vanderbilt Commodores (+40)

Record: 3-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Vanderbilt recovered from its first loss of the season to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at home on Sep. 10, as the Commodores defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies on the road last Saturday, 38-28. First-year quarterback AJ Swann passed for 255 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions on 18/28 completions while running back Ray Davis rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for the Commodores, who also covered the spread as road underdogs by 2.5 points.

Vanderbilt is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.

Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-40)

Record: 3-1 Overall / 0-0 Conference

As expected, Alabama demolished the UL-Monroe Warhawks last Saturday at home, 63-7. The Warhawks were merely paid by Alabama to be a glorified sparring partner and punching bag, so the outcome was really something surprising. However, Bryce Young did not have the smoothest of performances in such a huge mismatch. He passed for 236 yards and three touchdowns on 13/18 completions but was intercepted twice. Young will look to be better against Vanderbilt’s defense that has allowed at least 25 points in three of four games so far this season.

Alabama is 5-5 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Alabama wins, 49-14.
