Betting on the Clemson Tigers (-7.5)

Record: 10-2 Overall/8-0 Conference

Clemson’s chances of making the College Football Playoff is now out the window following the Tigers’ heartbreaking 31-30 home loss to Spencer Rattler and the South Carolina Gamecocks in Week 13. Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei played poorly in that game, going just 8/29 for 99 yards and a touchdown with an interception versus South Carolina. However, running back Will Shipley went off for 132 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Uiagalelei also had success on the ground with 51 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. The Tigers are very much capable of bouncing back. They’re still a pretty talented squad that can take advantage of North Carolina’s leaky defense that is constantly allowing 30 or more points each game.

Clemson is 5-3 against the spread in its last eight games overall.

Betting on the North Carolina Tar Heels (+7.5)

Record: 9-3 Overall/6-2 Conference

Somehow, the Tar Heels have made it to the ACC title game despite two losses in a row to end their regular-season schedule. After losing to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Nov. 19, 21-17, North Carolina suffered a 30-27 double-overtime loss to the NC State Wolfpack last Saturday. Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye threw for 233 yards and a touchdown with an interception on just 29/49 completions versus the Wolfpack. The ground game is where the Tar Heels’ strength on offense is, though, as it is running more plays via their rushing than passing. That said, Maye will have to be prepared to be more pass-heavy this time around as that seemed to work against Clemson in the Tigers’ loss to South Carolina.

The Under is 3-1 in North Carolina’s last four games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Clemson wins, 37-23.
