The Guardians are coming off a 92-70 season to win the American League Central division. Cleveland had a great balance on the mound and at the plate in 2022, as they finished seventh in batting average (.252) and sixth with a 3.46 ERA. Getting the call to start on Opening Day for Cleveland this Thursday is Shane Bieber, who went 13-8 with a 2.88 ERA and 2.87 FIP in 2022. In his lone start that season against Seattle, Bieber allowed just an earned run on five hits in seven innings of work. Jose Ramirez will spearhead the offense of Cleveland, and he will get a seemingly favorable matchup against Mariners starter Luis Castillo. Ramirez is 5-for-18 with three home runs and six RBI in his career versus Castillo.
he Guardians are 6-0 in their last six games against AL West teams.
Betting on the Seattle Mariners (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Mariners are looking to build on their memorable 2022 season. Last year, Seattle made the postseason for the first time in over two decades, as they finished with a 90-72 record. The pair of Julio Rodriguez and Eugenio Suarez led the team’s offense in 2022, combining for 59 home runs. Rodriguez had a sensational rookie campaign, as he also had 25 stolen bases for the Mariners, who were 10th with 1.2 home runs per game. Watch out for shortstop J.P. Crawford as well, as he is 5-for-7 with four RBI all-time against Bieber. On the mound tonight for Seattle is the aforementioned Castillo, who was an All-Star in 2022 (8-6, 2.99 ERA, 138 ERA+).
The Mariners are 8-2 in their last 10 Thursday games.
