Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers (7:08 PM ET)
Line: Kansas City Royals (+155) at Detroit Tigers (-175); total 7.5 – view all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]The last time Max Scherzer met the Royals, he was roughed up for 10 runs on 10 hits in just four innings for an 11-4 loss on June 17. The Tigers ace may be up for another rough outing as he’s 1-1 with a 5.11 ERA in his last four starts. Fatigue may also come into play as he threw a season-high 124 pitches over six innings against Cleveland on Thursday. Matching up against Scherzer is Kansas City’s Jason Vargas who is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in two starts in Detroit this year.
Writer’s Prediction: The Royals batter Scherzer for a win.
Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Colorado Rockies (+150) at New York Mets (-170); total 7.0 – view all MLB lines
Starting for the New York Mets is Jacob de Grom, who is 6-1 in his last nine games with a 1.81 ERA (third lowest in the majors since July 8). DeGrom has won four straight home starts with 31 strikeouts. The rookie pitcher will need to pitch another gem when he goes against Colorado’s Corey Dickerson. The Rockies’ left fielder is hitting .414 with seven runs scored on a seven-game hitting streak.
Writer’s Prediction: The Mets record another win.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers (8:05 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Angels (-150) at Texas Rangers (+135); total 9.5 – view all MLB lines
The Los Angeles Angels are running away with the AL West lead on the heels of a five-game winning streak. Albert Pujols, Kole Calhoun, David Freese and Howie Kendrick reminded everyone of the hot bats they wield as they all homered yesterday in a 12-3 win at Cleveland. In contrast, the Texas Rangers have averaged just 1.9 runs over their last nine games.
Writer’s Prediction: The Angels continue swinging their way to victory.
Miami Marlins vs. Milwaukee Brewers (8:10 PM ET)
Line: Miami Marlins (+134) at Milwaukee Brewers (-144); total 8.0 – view all MLB lines
The Milwaukee Brewers have significantly damaged their chances of making the playoffs. They are just 1-9 in their last 10 games. They may be up to continue their string of losses with Matt Garza on the mound. Garza matched a season-high six runs surrendered in three innings to the Chicago Cubs on September 3 and is 0-2 with an 8.78 ERA over his last three starts against the Marlins.
The Brewers’ starter will have a tough outing against the Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton leads the NL with 37 homers and a career-high 105 RBIs. Meanwhile, fellow Marlins batter Marcell Ozuna (who has 20 homers and 80 RBIs) will also provide some firepower at the plate.
Writer’s Prediction: The Marlins pound Garza for a win.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants (10:15 PM ET)
Line: Arizona Diamondbacks (+150) at San Francisco Giants (-170); total 7.0 – view all MLB lines
The San Francisco Giants have won six-straight home games. A valuable commodity at the plate, Buster Posey has batted .455 with three homers and nine RBIs during the streak. However, he’s only gone 1-for-5 against Arizona’s Wade Miley this season. The D-backs starter has gone 0-2 in his last four outings despite a 1.69 ERA. He has only received three runs of support over the four starts as Arizona continue their scoring slump.
Writer’s Prediction: The Giants beat the Dbacks.
