College football takes center stage today with a couple of bowl games to heat up the sports world a day before Christmas. First on the schedule is a classic offense vs. defense matchup in the Bahamas Bowl, as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers take on the Central Michigan Chippewas. Later tonight, the Fresno State Bulldogs and the Rice Owls say ‘Aloha’ to each other before engaging in what should be an action-packed Hawai’i Bowl.

[sc:NCAA240banner ]The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers wasted no time in making it to a bowl game as part of C-USA. The Hilltoppers, who are playing in their first season under the said conference, will lock horns with the MAC’s Central Michigan Chippewas in the inaugural Bahamas Bowl.
The Hilltoppers own a high-flying offense that ranked third in FBS in passing yards (365.0 per game), 67th in rushing yards (160.3), and sixth in scoring (44.0). The Chippewas, meanwhile, do have a decent defense that could present challenges to Western Kentucky’s attack. The Chippewas finished the season 42nd in the nation in passing defense (211.4 yards allowed per game), 17th in rushing defense (119.75), and 32nd in scoring defense (23.2). The Hilltoppers are 3-0 ATS in their last three games, while the Chippewas are 3-1 SU in their last four games.

The Fresno State Bulldogs’ rollercoaster of a season is set to end today in the tropical paradise that is Hawaii. The Bulldogs opened up the season with three-straight losses, which was followed by a three-game win streak. Then Fresno State suffered yet another three-game skid before finishing the last four games with a 3-1 record, including a loss to the Boise State Broncos in the MWC championship game.
The Bulldogs are bannered by quarterback Brian Burrell (2,576 passing yards, 22 touchdowns) who directed the school’s 59th-ranked passing offense (233.8 yards per game). The Rice Owls, on the other hand, are coming off a crushing 76-31 loss against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Wide receiver Jordan Taylor will be the player to watch for the Owls. The senior is the conference’s top receiver in terms of yards per game with 86.8.
Fresno State is 3-1 ATS in its last four games, while Rice is 3-2 ATS in its last five outings.
