Betting on the Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox continue to dwell at the bottom of the AL East division. A postseason appearance still remains a possibility but they’ll need to start winning in bunches as soon as possible. Tonight’s contest against the New York Yankees is another chance to head back the right direction and ignite a run.
[sc:MLB240banner ]Pitching for Boston will be Steven Wright, who has a 4-4 record and 4.53 ERA thus far this year. During his last time out in an 8-2 triumph over the White Sox, Wright arguably had his best performance of the season, yielding just two runs in seven innings and striking out eight to pick up the win. However, the 30-year-old right hander’s been having a tough time on the road, as he is just 1-3 with a 5.29 ERA.
For the Red Sox to pull off the victory, they’ll need back up Wright by scoring some runs. Their best hitter Xander Bogaerts (.315) will be relied upon to lead the way on the plate. He went 0-for-4 last night but prior to that, he went 8-for-16 in his previous four games.
Then of course, there is the hard-hitting David Ortiz, who leads Boston with 20 homers this season. Ortiz was 0-for-3 yesterday but has been pretty successful in his career versus the Yankees, owning a .307 batting average.
Boston is 1-4 in Wright’s last five starts.

Betting on the New York Yankees
After last night’s resounding 13-3 triumph in Game 1, the New York Yankees have now won seven of their last 10 games. They are atop the AL East standings and have a relatively comfy lead of five and a half games over the second place Blue Jays. The Yankees will look to widen their advantage further with another win over the Boston Red Sox tonight.
Adding more hype to this game is the fact that Luis Severino will be making his major league debut this evening. The Yankees’ No. 1 prospect has finally arrived to The Show and will become the youngest Major Leaguer to make a start this year. The 21-year old Severino, who becomes the 14th Yankee to debut this year, had a 1.91 ERA in 11 starts with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Severino will be backed up with a very solid offense, as the Yankees are averaging 4.92 runs per contest, the second-highest in the majors. They have also scored in double figures four times in their past seven games.
Looking to keep the fire burning at the plate is the pair of Alex Rodriguez and Brian McCann. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 yesterday and is hitting .306 during home games this season. McCann, meanwhile, has gone hitless only once in his previous seven games. He’s hitting .307 (8-for-26) in that stretch and is 1-for-2 in his career off Boston starter Steven Wright.
Yankees have won five of their last seven home games.
Writer’s Prediction:
Yankees (-180 ) wins, 7-2.
