NFL: Green Bay Packers vs. Baltimore Ravens (1:00 PM ET)

Minus pro-bowl linebacker Clay Matthews, the Packers are expecting a testier affair when they head to Baltimore to face the defending champions Ravens. Matthews broke his thumb in Green Bay’s home win against the Lions and could miss at least two weeks.  Without the team’s top pass rusher – Matthews has team-best three sacks – the Packers need A.J. Hawk, Nick Perry, and Mike Neal to step up their game in harassing Baltimore QB, Joe Flacco.

Despite their two losses, the Packers seem to be doing well offensively. Aaron Rodgers is third in the league in Yards per game with 333, helping Green Bay to place fourth in average passing yards in the NFL with 312.3 a game.

Green Bay is 4-1 OVER in its last five games. In their last five meetings with Baltimore, the Packers are 4-1 ATS.

Odds: Green Bay Packers (-3) vs. Baltimore Ravens (+3), O/U: 49.0

Baltimore is mired in a three-way tie at the top of the AFC North with the Bengals and Browns also sharing a 3-2 record. A loss against the Packers could be a substantial setback for Baltimore given the tight race in the division.

Joe Flacco’s had a couple of terrible games in the Ravens’ last two outings. First in Baltimore’s loss to the Bills where he got sacked four times and threw five interceptions. The next game against Miami wasn’t that brutal but he still was sacked twice. Nonetheless, Baltimore squeaked past by the Dolphins, 26-23.

Baltimore keeps a 4-0 SU and ATS record in their last four home games. All of those games went UNDER in the Totals.

New Orleans Saints vs. New England Patriots (8:07 PM ET)

Drew Brees, NFL, New Orleans Saints

The return of Sean Peyton continues to spell the difference in the Saints’ turnaround from a disappointing 2012 season. So far, New Orleans is undefeated through its first five games. But don’t take anything away from new defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan. Ryan is big part of the Saints’ improvement on defense, which allowed the most total yards in NFL history last season.

New Orleans now ranks 12th against the pass allowing 221.8 per game and 18th against the rush giving up 108.6 an outing. Drew Brees, on the other hand, takes care of the Saints’ offense that is second best in the NFL in passing yards with an average of 327.2. Brees is only behind Peyton Manning in total yards with 1,722.

Aside from a 5-0 SU mark in their last five games, the Saints are also 3-0 ATS in their last three overall.

Odds: New Orleans Saints (+1) vs. New England Patriots (-1), O/U: 50.5

A 4-1 SU record is nothing to smirk at but for the Patriots, that mark is only a nice looking facade hiding the troubles of New England. The Patriots’ problems mainly involve Tom Brady’s receiving corps, which has been beleaguered by injuries and unfamiliarity with their quarterback.

Hopefully, the return of two-time Pro-Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski could spark the Patriots’ offense which only ranks 24th in the NFL, scoring just 19 points a game. It was further highlighted in New England’s loss in Week 5 against the Bengals where Tom Brady failed to throw a touchdown for the first time in 52 straight regular season games.

The Patriots can get back to their winning ways starting in their home game against New Orleans. They are a tough team to beat at home going 8-2 SU in their last 10 games at Gillette Stadium.
