Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 56-29
The Dodgers will look to level things with St. Louis in this series after suffering a 7-6 loss in the opener. They seem to have just the perfect weapon to get back to their winning ways, as Los Angeles will be sending Tony Gonsolin to the mound in Game 2. Gonsolin has been spotless this season in terms of win-loss record, as he is 11-0 to date this year. He is also brandishing an incredible 1.62 ERA along with a 0.80 WHIP – both no. 1 in the majors among qualified pitchers. Gonsolin tamed the Chicago Cubs in his most previous start, allowing just 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 7.0 innings of work. It helps Gonsolin to relax and be at his best on the mound because he knows the Dodgers’ offense has his back. Los Angeles starters are fifth in the majors with 5.25 runs support per nine innings. Freddi Freeman, who just went 4-for-5 in the series opener, is a career 6-for-24 (.250) vs. Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright.
The Dodgers are 40-12 in their last 52 during Game 2s.
Betting on the St. Louis Cardinals (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 47-42
The Cardinals have regained momentum, as they are on a three-game win streak. Prior to beating the Dodgers in the series opener, St. Louis closed out the four-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies at home with back-to-back victories. The Cardinals’ offense has been scorching of late, having scored 17 runs during their current unbeaten stretch. That should get Wainwright excited as he looks to go .500 this season. Wainwright is 6-7 with a 3.15 ERA and 1.21 WHIP this season. Over his last two starts, the 40-year-old Wainwright has allowed 6 earned runs on 13 hits. Four of those hits went for home runs, which isn’t nice to hear for Cardinals fans as the Dodgers are fourth in the National League with 111 home runs and second with a .434 slugging percentage. Then again, the current Cardinals hitters are a career .281 against Gonsolin.
The Cardinals are 5-0 in their last 5 games vs. NL West teams.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dodgers win, 7-3.
