Betting on the San Francisco Giants (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 48-43
The Giants will try to eke out a win at the expense of their arch-nemesis. Before the 2022 MLB All-Star break, the Giants pulled off a gentleman’s sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in a four-game series at home, winning the last three legs of that matchup. While it’s currently unknown who the Giants’ starter for this game will be, San Francisco is fifth in the majors with a starters’ ERA of 3.57 along with a .307 BABIP. Wilmer Flores and Mike Yastrzemski headline the run support system of the Giants after hitting .253 and .235 in the first half, respectively, while combining for 21 home runs and 89 RBIs. The Giants are also 8-6 against the run line in games in which they were the underdogs.
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 60-30
The Dodgers sit comfortably atop the National League West division, leading the rest in the group by 10 games. They padded that lead with a four-game win streak just before the midseason break, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Angels each twice in that stretch. The Dodgers have been just as lethal at the plate and on the mound for the most part of the season. They are fifth in batting average (.255) in the majors and first in on-base percentage (.333), while also ranking no. 1 in ERA (2.96) and WHIP (1.07). Los Angeles hasn’t named a starter yet for this series opener against the Giants, but has a starters’ ERA of 2.77. The Dodgers also boast of an offense that leads all NL teams in wRC+ (119). Los Angeles enters Friday’s game with a 53-37 run-line record this year.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dodgers win, 5-2.
