Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (+14)
Regular Season Record: 7-8
True to their recent trend, the Falcons followed a loss with a win, as they defeated the Detroit Lions at home in Week 16 at home, 20-16. Prior to that, the Falcons lost to the San Francisco 49ers on the road in Week 15, 31-13. Matt Ryan offered a glimpse of his vintage self in the win over Detroit, passing for 215 yards and a touchdown with no interception on 18/24 completions. But the most notable performance came from rookie tight end Kyle Pitts, who finished with 102 receiving yards on six catches and six targets. Pitts is going to have a very bright future ahead of him, and he could definitely wreak havoc again in Week 17 against the Bills, given his combination of size, speed, and talent. Ryan can also put up a throwback performance from time to time, so that’s something Atlanta fans and bettors can hold on to for confidence.
The under is 6-1 in the Falcons’ last seven games overall.
Betting on the Buffalo Bills (-14)
Regular Season Record: 9-6
The Bills got back at the New England Patriots, beating Bill Belichick’s team in Foxborough last Sunday, 33-21. Buffalo is now on a two-game win streak, having defeated the Carolina Panthers at home in Week 15, 31-14. The Bills seem to have gotten their mojo back after back-to-back losses to the Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Weeks 14. This is the version of the Bills that had people thinking that this team is a legitimate Super Bowl contender when it went 4-1 to start the season. Beating New England on the road was also some sort of exorcising their demons for the Bills, who should have all the confidence in the world heading into a home game against the lowly Falcons in Week 17. Buffalo’s scoring offense, which entered Week 16 ranked third in the NFL, should be able to exploit the Falcons’ porous defense.
The Bills are 5-4-1 against the spread in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bills win, 28-17.
