Marcus Mariota was ineffective in the Chargers game, passing for just 129 yards and zero touchdowns on 12/23 completions, but the Falcons’ rushing attack soared. Tyler Allgeier rushed 10 times for 99 yards while veteran Cordarrelle Patterson returned from his absence and rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. In the first meeting with Carolina, Mariota had three touchdowns with a pair of interceptions. He will just have to be more careful against Carolina’s defense which is seemingly starting to disintegrate.
The Falcons are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Carolina Panthers (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 2-7
It could be time for the Panthers to go back to Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback. Walker was a disaster in the loss to the Bengals, as he got picked twice in nine attempts. Mayfield, meanwhile, went 14/20 for 155 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. Running back D’Onta Foreman only had 23 rushing yards on seven carries, with the Panthers needing to pass the heck out of the ball more while trailing big. In the first meeting with the Falcons, though, Foreman had 118 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries.
The Panthers have seen the total hit the Over in both of their last two games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Falcons win, 24-20.
