Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (4-3)
After starting the season hot, the Atlanta Falcons really struggled losing three games in a row, including an embarrassing loss at the hands of the New England Patriots. In their last game against the Jets though they really didn’t play that much better, but they came out with the win and that was the most important part.
For the Falcons the biggest change has been in the offensive production. Matt Ryan just hasn’t looked the same without Kyle Shanahan and although his stats haven’t been bad, they need him to be better. In some games he has had trouble with turnovers, but he hasn’t had any in the last two games so maybe he is turning the corner in terms of turnovers.
Ryan and Julio Jones don’t seem to be on the same page and that is causing trouble. So far Jones has only caught one touchdown and that isn’t enough for a receiver who most consider to be one of the best in the league. The offense is going to have their hands full in this game against a good Panthers defense. Matt Ryan needs to have a good game, but he also needs to make sure he doesn’t turn the ball over.
Betting on the Carolina Panthers (5-3)
On the other side of this match up is the Carolina Panthers who have been inconsistent this year, but they come into this game with a 5-3 record. One of those losses was a really ugly though. They had problems against the Bears and Cam Newton couldn’t stop turning the ball over and that led to a 17-3 defeat.
The good news for the Panthers though is they still have everything in front of them though, and they are right in the thick of the race for the NFC South. To win this game the Panthers need a good game from Cam Newton. He has been really inconsistent at times this year, and if he struggles in this game, they will lose and be upset.
If he has a good game though and the Panthers defense steps up big in this one, they should be able to win a key game.
Writer’s Prediction:
Cam Newton has been inconsistent this year, and I think that will continue in this game.
Matt Ryan will have a big game and the Falcons will pull a big upset in this game. Pick: Falcons (+1.5)
