Game 1: May 17, 7:10PM EST

Pregame Odds: Baltimore (-1.5) vs Boston (+1.5)

Starters: Kevin Gausman (3-2, 3.18 ERA) vs. David Price (3-4, 4.89 ERA)

Pitching:

Kevin Gausman has relied on ground balls of late, as he has induced at least 11 ground balls in each of his last three starts. On May 11, he drew 13 ground balls while allowing two earned runs on 11 hits in 7.1 innings of a 9-4 home win over Tampa Bay. The Orioles are 4-3 in his last seven starts. As for the Red Sox, they’ll have David Price on the mound. Price surrendered two earned runs on five hits in 5.1 frames of a 5-2 road win over Toronto on May 12. Boston is 4-0 in Price’s last four starts against the Orioles.

Hitting:

  • Mookie Betts is 12-for-29 with three homers vs. Gausman.
  • Danny Valencia is 13-for-22 with 3 doubles in his career vs. Price.

Writer’s Prediction:

Boston wins, 5-4.

Game 2: May 18, 7:10PM EST

Starters: Alex Cobb (0-5, 7.06 ERA) vs. Drew Pomeranz (1-1, 5.47 ERA)

Pitching:

It’s been a rotten campaign for Alex Cobb so far, as he’s gone winless in six starts during which he accrued a dizzying ERA of 7.06. In his last outing, he allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven in 5.2 innings of a 10-3 home loss to Tampa Bay on May 12. Believe it or not, that’s his best outing to date this year. The over is 4-2 in his six starts this year. Boston will have Drew Pomeranz, who compared to Cobb, is like a Cy Young candidate. Pomeranz pitched for four innings on May 13 in a 5-3 road win over Toronto, yielding three earned runs on five hits  with six K’s. The Red Sox are 3-1 in Pomeranz’s last four starts against the Orioles.

Hitting:

  • Christian Vazquez is 8-for-11 in his career vs. Cobb
  • Trey Mancini is 3-for-9 lifetime vs. Pomeranz.

Writer’s Prediction:

Boston wins, 6-3.

Game 3: May 19, 7:10PM EST

Starters: Dylan Bundy (2-5, 4.53 ERA) vs. Rick Porcello (5-1, 3.28 ERA)

Pitching:

After three straight losses, Bundy finally tasted success on May 13 when he pitched seven scoreless innings while striking out seven in a whopping 17-1 win over Tampa Bay. He owns a 3-5 record with a 4.66 ERA in 13 appearances versus the Red Sox. Rick Porcello, meanwhile, has allowed 10 earned runs on 17 hits in his last two starts (both losses). He is 2-1 with a 3.54 ERA at home so far this year.

Hitting:

  • Mookie Betts is 6-for-22 with two homers vs. Bundy.
  • Manny Machado is 12-for-36 with two homers vs. Porcello.

Writer’s Prediction:

Baltimore wins, 4-3.

Game 4: May 20, 1:05PM EST

Starters: TBA vs. Eduardo Rodriguez (3-1, 4.68 ERA)

Pitching:

Eduardo Rodriguez took his first defeat of the season on May 15 when he allowed three earned runs on six hits in five innings of a 5-3 loss at home against Oakland. The Red Sox are 3-1 in his last four home starts.

Hitting:

  • Trey Mancini is 4-for-13 vs. Rodriguez.

Writer’s Prediction:

Boston wins, 5-3.
