Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (+140)
Starting for the Orioles in this series finale is left-hander Wade Miley (7-10, 4.98 ERA). He has provided Baltimore two solid outings since joining the team from Seattle but unfortunately for the 29-year-old, he has nothing to show for it. Miley allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of action in Baltimore’s 2-1 loss to Oakland on Tuesday. He now has four quality starts in his last five outings but is just 1-4 during that span.Miley needs all the help he can get from the Baltimore hitters if he is to grab that much-coveted victory today. Fortunately for Miley, he has the ever-dependable Manny Machado on his side tonight. The third baseman leads the team in hits (138), batting average (.307) and on-base percentage (.366) this season. He is 9-for-30 in his last eight games with four homers and nine RBIs.
Machado will have his work cut out for him, however, against Cueto as he is just 1-of-6 in his career against the right-hander. That lone hit, however, was a three-run homer. Another guy who’s feeling hot at the plate right now is Adam Jones. He is 12-of-32 over his last eight games with two home runs and three RBIs. He is 1-of-6 lifetime against Cueto with a homer and three RBIs.
Betting on the San Francisco Giants (-155)
Pitching for the Giants in the final game of this three-game set is Johnny Cueto (13-3, 2.93 ERA). He allowed five runs over five innings with five strikeouts and a walk in a no-decision Monday against the Miami Marlins. San Francisco still won that game, 8-7. That was the second straight no-decision for Cueto. He has struggled mightily of late, posting a 5.02 ERA in his five second-half starts. The Giants are just 2-3 during that span.
Given Cueto’s struggles, the onus is on the San Francisco hitters to get their bats going in the series finale. Expected to lead the way for the Giants today is the red-hot Brandon Crawford. He is hitting 9-of-30 over his last eight games with a homer and three RBIs. He has struggled mightily against Miley, however, racking up just two hits in 14 career at-bats against the Baltimore lefty.
