Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (+6.5)

Can the Ravens be stopped? That’s the question on everybody’s lips after Baltimore recorded yet another victory on Sunday, a convincing 38-6 thrashing of Miami at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens’ 32-point margin of victory over the Dolphins ranks as the third-biggest under coach John Harbaugh. With the win, Baltimore improved to 7-5 as they kept pace with rivals Pittsburgh in the race for the AFC North title.

Leading the way for the Ravens in this critical victory was Joe Flacco. He completed 36 of 47 passes against the Dolphins for 381 yards and four touchdowns. Flacco, whose 36 completions were a franchise-record, finished this matchup with an incredible passer rating of 119.2. Tight end Dennis Pitta was Flacco’s favorite target in this contest, catching nine passes for 90 yards and two scores. Pitta, who leads the Ravens with 61 receptions, hadn’t reached the end zone since December 2013.

The Ravens will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they take on the red-hot New England Patriots this coming Monday. For Baltimore to extend its winning streak even further, it needs to continue its excellent play on the defensive end. The Ravens are second in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing just 17.2 points per game this season. They will have their work cut out for them, however, against a New England side that’s sixth in the league in scoring, averaging 26.6 points per game this campaign.

The Ravens are 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS on the road this season.

Betting on the New England Patriots (-6.5)

The New England Patriots will head to their Monday Night Football showdown with the Baltimore Ravens with momentum on their side after beating the Los Angeles Rams, 26-10, on Sunday. It was a morale-boosting victory for the Pats who extended their winning streak to three games. With the win, New England (10-2) moved three games clear of the Miami Dolphins atop the AFC East standings with just four games remaining this season.

Leading the way for the Patriots in their Week 13 win was Tom Brady. He became the NFL leader in victories among quarterbacks, earning his 201st win by throwing for 269 yards and a touchdown. Brady completed 33 of 46 passes against the Rams to finish with a passer rating of 93.5. Benefiting from Brady’s solid play was Julian Edelman. He caught eight passes for 101 yards. With the Pats’ aerial attack in full flow, that opened things up for LeGarrette Blount. He wreaked havoc against LA’s defensive line, running for 88 yards and a score.

The Patriots will need more of the same efficiency from Brady if they are to beat the Ravens this coming Monday. Apart from Brady making big plays, New England will also need its defense to be relentless against Baltimore. The Patriots held the Rams to just 162 total yards on Sunday. They are second in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing a measly 17.2 points per game this season. New England needs that defense now more than ever with Rob Gronkowski out for the rest of the season with a back injury.

The Patriots are 4-2 ATS at home this season.
