Alex Len
Earlier in his NBA career, Len looked like he has a bundle of potential in that 7-1, 260-pound frame. That was back in the 2014-2015 season when the Maryland product averaged 6.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game for the team that drafted him, the Phoenix Suns.
But incremental improvements of his numbers over the succeeding two seasons have Suns fans wondering if Len would be able to reach that potential they were dreaming of seeing in the future Len put up just 8.0 points, grabbed 6.6 rebounds, and swatted 1.3 blocks per game in just 34 games for the Suns.
That limited number of games makes one question how strongly Phoenix is feeling on the idea of Len being a part of the team’s long-term plans. Len is a restricted free agent right now and the Suns have already offered him a qualifying offer of $4.2 million but perhaps Len could be better off playing in a new environment, where he could truly blossom. Just 24-years-old, there’s plenty of basketball ahead for the Ukrainian.
Pau Gasol
The San Antonio Spurs have a ton of expiring contracts to decide on this offseason, including Gasol’s. The Spaniard used the player option of his two-year deal to decline the remaining $16.2 million of his contract in hopes of restructuring a new one that would be more cap-friendly to the Spurs. Having said that, nothing is set in stone yet and there’s the possibility of the Spurs letting him go via a sign-and-trade deal. San Antonio also could simply let Gasol walk away. In any case, there should still be interest for a seven-footer who has career averages of 17.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Mason Plumlee
Plumlee arrived in Mile High City following Denver’s trade with the Portland Trail Blazers last February but with the arrival of Paul Millsap and the expected growth of Nikola Jokic’s game, Plumlee, who’s a restricted free agent, could be playing in a different uniform next season. Plumlee actually played well last season, when he averaged 10.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. For what it’s worth, Mason Plumlee is the best Plumlee of them all.
