Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns (10:00 PM EST)
Line: Los Angeles Clippers (+3) at Phoenix Suns (-3); total 214.0 – view lines here
Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers
[sc:NBA240banner ]The Clippers are looking to punctuate their four-game road trip on a winning note after out-dueling Minnesota on Monday, 114-104. Aside from being the Clips third win in a row, it was also the team’s third consecutive cover.
Despite the absence of All-Star forward Blake Griffin, the Clips didn’t miss a beat on offense as the backcourt combo of Chris Paul and Darren Collison combined for 50 points and 16 assists. Moreover, DeAndre Jordan filled the void left by Griffin in the interior as he scored 11 points and churned out monstrous numbers of 25 rebounds (10 offensive boards) and 4 blocks.
Over their last five games, the Clippers averaged 108.6 PPG on 46% shooting. They have scored at least 109 points in each of their last three outings, all of which have gone over in the totals.
Betting on the Phoenix Suns
Welcoming the Clippers to the desert tonight are the Suns, who despite losing to the Lakers in Los Angeles on Sunday, remains a hot team with a 6-1 SU record in their last seven games.
Guard Eric Bledsoe was limited to just 10 points against the Lakers, while his backcourt partner Goran Dragic also had a down game with only 17 points after scoring 32 points versus the Knicks in the game prior. Still, the tandem of Bledsoe and Dragic is averaging a total of 37.8 PPG in their last five games and could certainly give the Clippers own guard duo of Paul and Collison a run for their money.
The Suns are 3-0 SU in their last three home games.
Prediction
Don’t get fully bought on the fact that these are two of the NBA’s highest scoring teams. This game will go under the totals line of 214 because defense will be the deciding factor of this game.
Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels (10:05 PM EST)
Line: Seattle Mariners (+130) at LA Angels (-140); total 7.5 (View Lines Here)
Betting on the Seattle Mariners
Signing Robinson Cano in the offseason was meant to boost the offense of the Mariners, and two games into the season, Seattle has been feeling it already from behind the plate. For the second night in a row, the Mariners put up a hitting clinic, dismantling the Angels, 8-3. Seattle is now 2-0 over to start 2014 .
In Game 2 of their series against the Angels, Seattle got three RBI’s each from Justin Smoak and Brad Miller, who also crushed two homers. On the mound, Erasmo Ramirez pitched seven innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs in the fourth. Thankfully for Ramirez, his teammates had already provided him a big run cushion with a four-run third inning.
Looking to join Felix Hernandez and Ramirez in the win column is James Paxton, who’ll be starting tonight for the Mariners. The lefty finished last season with a 3-0 win-loss record and 1.50 ERA. Seattle only lost once in 2013 all his four starts.
Betting on the Los Angeles Angels
It was supposed to be an ominous sign for Seattle when the Angels Mike Trout smacked a homer off Felix Hernandez right in his very first at-bat this season. Unfortunately, the Angels went on to lose their opener, 10-3, and was followed by another lopsided 8-3 loss to go down 0-2 in their series against the Mariners.
After going 2-4 in the opener, Trout went just 0-3 last night, while Albert Pujols is 2-8 overall. Raul Ibanez, however, added to his impressive home run collection, when he hit one off Mariners’ Ramirez in the fourth inning of game two. It was his 40th home run since turning 40.
Hector Santiago gets the starting gig for the last game of the series. Santiago pitched for the White Sox last season, earning a 4-9 record and 3.56 ERA in 23 starts in 2013. Worth noting is the 5-1 under record of the White Sox in Santiago’s last six starts before getting traded to the Angels.
Prediction
Angels’ offense is due to come out tonight and they should get their first win of the season as -140 favorites. Bet on this game to go over 7.5, too.
