New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (-164) at Toronto Blue Jays (+149); total: 9.0 – view all MLB lines
The New York Yankees will head to Rogers Centre with momentum on their side after sweeping the Minnesota Twins in their last series. The Bronx Bombers have now won seven of their last eight outings as they opened up a huge seven-game advantage over Minnesota in the race for the top AL wild card spot. Offense has been the catalyst for New York’s strong second half run, scoring a whopping 55 runs over their last eight games. They will look to keep on raking against Jays starter Marco Estrada who’s 9-8 for the year with a 4.84 ERA.
Estrada has been solid in the month of September, posting a 3.60 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over four starts. He will look to keep it going against the Yankees who will have Masahiro Tanaka (12-11, 4.73 ERA) as their starter tonight. The Japanese hurler last faced Toronto on August 9, lasting just four-plus innings in an 11-5 New York victory. The Yankees have won five of their last six games with Tanaka as their starting pitcher.
Writer’s Prediction: Tanaka outduels Estrada to lead the Yankees (-164) to a critical road win against the Blue Jays.
Cleveland Indians vs. Seattle Mariners (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Cleveland Indians (-175) at Seattle Mariners (+155); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines
There’s just no stopping the Cleveland Indians right now. The Tribe defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 4-1, on Thursday to record their 27th win in the last 28 games. Edwin Encarnacion starred for the Indians in their latest victory, blasting his team-leading 37th long ball of the season. He will look to keep the momentum going against Erasmo Ramirez who’s 5-6 (4.56 ERA) for the Mariners this season.
The right-hander has been solid since his acquisition from the Tampa Bay Rays and is 1-2 with a 3.54 ERA over his past seven starts for Seattle. Friday’s showdown will be his first start against Cleveland since 2015. Opposing him this evening is Trevor Bauer (16-9, 4.41 ERA). The Indians love having him on the mound as they have won five of their last six games with Bauer as their starter. He took the loss against Kansas City on Friday that ended Cleveland’s unprecedented 22-game winning streak.
Writer’s Prediction: Bauer leads the Indians (-175) to yet another win.
